Music
At Buckingham Park we incorporate music into our creative and exciting curriculum. It develops our pupils’ creativity and deepens their understanding of the world around them.

We have a large range of tuned and un-tuned instruments that the children are encouraged to use, experiment and investigate with and develop their skills in using.
We have many professional musicians that come to Buckingham Park to teach children the skills needed to play a musical instrument. These include Piano and Guitar lessons. We also have after school sessions, such as our very popular Drumming club.
Each Key Stage attends a singing assembly once a week, where the songs are closely linked to our creative curriculum. Singing in classrooms is also greatly encouraged, particularly for the younger children, as a way of expressing themselves, developing confidence and skills.

Foundation stage
At foundation stage, the children begin to explore the use of different media to create sound and movement. The children sing songs regularly. They create rhymes and rhythms that link closely with their learning environment. The children at Buckingham Park are encouraged to make music using both tuned and un-tuned instruments, and they are given the opportunity to experiment with ways of changing the sounds that they make.
Key Stage 1
At Key Stage 1 pupils experiment with, create, select and combine sounds using the interrelated dimensions of music. They are encouraged to use their voices expressively and creatively by singing songs and speaking chants and rhymes. Linked to the topic focus of the term, the children are able to listen, with increased understanding, to a range of live and recorded music.
Key Stage 2
At Key stage 2 the children at Buckingham Park are taught to sing and play musically with increasing confidence and control. They are also taught to improvise and compose music for a range of purposes, using the interrelated dimensions of music. Through effective teaching, the children develop an understanding of the history of music, with a wide range of high-quality live and recorded music drawn from different traditions, composers and musicians.
