Read Write Inc. Literacy & Language

As children progress and are able to read fluently, they move onto the Read Write Inc. Literacy and Language scheme, which develops children’s comprehension, vocabulary, writing, critical thinking, discussion skills, and grammar – in a fun and meaningful way.

Read Write Inc. Literacy and Language is taught each day in Years 2, 3 and 4, and is designed to:

  • give every child a deep understanding of what they read, with it being based since upon high-quality texts, written by famous authors, i.e. Tony Ross, Jeremy Strong, Michael Morpurgo;
  • fully prepare every child for writing, following a plan, draft and revise/edit method;
  • teach grammar in context, so that children can apply it seamlessly in their own writing;
  • support the grammar and punctuation aspects of the Key Stage 1 and 2 curriculum;
  • create articulate speakers where children justify their answers and learn how to debate.

Each unit consists of both a fiction and non-fiction focus, with there initially being an emphasis on the reading and comprehension of the text, followed by the writing. This means that our children write confidently and enthusiastically.

In addition to Literacy and Language lessons, children will be writing across the curriculum, i.e. Maths, Science, History, Geography, Religious education.
