Music
At Buckingham Park Primary School, we are committed to providing our children with learning opportunities that engage them in music, and we firmly believe that every child is a musician.
Children are taught music through the Charanga scheme of learning, which ensures children have plenty of opportunities to sing, listen, play, perform and evaluate. This is embedded in classroom activities, as well as weekly singing assemblies, various concerts and performances, and the learning of instruments.
The elements of music are taught in the classroom lessons, so children are able to use some of the language of music to dissect it, and understand how it is made, played, appreciated and analysed. To help children develop a solid understanding, musical concepts are taught through a repetition-based approach to learning. Learning about the same musical concept through different musical activities enables a secure, deep learning and mastery of musical skills. Charanga offers a progressive approach, which enables children to embed deeper learning, knowledge, understanding and skills.
Additionally, we have external instrumental teachers who offer lessons on the guitar, flute, trumpet, violin and piano.
