Physical Education (PE)
Physical Education is a unique curriculum area with physical competency at its heart. At Buckingham Park Primary School, we believe every child has the ability to improve and achieve their full potential in this curriculum area. PE not only develops children as physical beings, but also helps to nurture their social, emotional and thinking skills.
The application of skills and knowledge across different sports and physical activities in our curriculum, facilitates improvements in confidence and competence. The carefully-planned introduction of new skills and knowledge - alongside revisiting prior learning - helps widen each child's field of knowledge, forming a solid foundation for pupils as they progress into Key Stage 3 and beyond.
Play has great purpose in PE, where children can develop their physical and thinking skills within a meaningful context. By acquiring skills and knowledge, practising and refining, the children widen their field of knowledge and develop physical competency as they progress through the school.
Intra-school competition enables our pupils to compete against their school peers in a range of physical activities. Inter-school competition - facilitated through our active involvement within the Shoreham cluster and partnership with Shoreham Academy - enables our pupils the opportunity to compete against pupils from our locality/region. As part of the Southern Area Partnership, we have access to a range of competitions and competition pathways throughout the school year, linked directly to the School Games programme. Every Buckingham Park Primary School pupil will represent the school in a sporting capacity at Key Stage 2, further enhancing their sense of belonging within our school community.
