Pupil Premium 

The pupil premium is funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

Schools will receive the following funding for each child registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years:

• £1,455 for pupils in reception year to year 6
• £1,035 for pupils in year 7 to year 11

Schools will also receive £1,900 for each pupil who has left local-authority care because of 1 of the following:

• adoption
• a special guardianship order
• a child arrangements order
• a residence order

This is one of the government’s key education policies. It’s based on findings that show that, as a group, children who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in time have consistently lower educational attainment than those who have never been eligible for FSM.

How do I know if my child is entitled to Pupil Premium?

You can register your child if you get any of these benefits:

• Income Support
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed £16,190
• Working Tax Credit ‘run-on’ – the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

No one will know you have registered and it will not affect any other benefits you are claiming. In schools nationally, pupils entitled to free school meals tend to perform less well than others.  We continually explore ways to spend the money as effectively as possible and we monitor assessment information closely to assess which strategies are most effective in raising attainment and increasing progress. 

We review our Pupil Premium Strategy throughout the year and formally in July.
