Relationship & Sex Education (RSE)
An important part of our curriculum is Personal, Social, Health & Economic Education (PSHE). Through teaching this subject, we are providing our children with the knowledge, understanding and skill to lead safe, healthy, productive and fulfilled lives. This reflects our school motto - 'Learning Together, Learning for Life'.
From September 2020, the Department for Education (DfE) made Relationship & Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education compulsory in all schools.
Below are some frequently asked questions about the teaching of RSE at primary school level; however, should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Will my child will be taught sex education at primary school?
While we offer age-appropriate sex education at our school, not all lessons are compulsory. We are introducing Relationships Education at an age-appropriate level, to put in place the building blocks needed for positive and safe relationships of all kinds. This will start with family and friends, how to treat each other with kindness, and recognising the difference between online and offline friendships.
Do I have a right to withdraw my child from Relationships & Sex Education?
You are not able to withdraw your child from Relationships Education, as it is important that all children receive this content, covering topics such as friendships and how to stay safe. If you would like to know more about what will be taught, please see below or contact the school.
If you would prefer your child not to take part in some or all of the lessons on Sex Education, you can ask that they are withdrawn. It is worth noting, the science curriculum in our school, and all maintained schools, includes content on human development, including reproduction, which you are unable to withdraw your child from.

Does the new Relationships & Sex Education curriculum take account of my faith?
The RSE curriculum has been designed to help our children, from all backgrounds, build positive and safe relationships, and to thrive in modern Britain. When teaching the RSE curriculum content, the religious background of our pupils has been taken into account when planning lessons, so that topics are appropriately handled.
