Science
Science at Buckingham Park Primary School
At Buckingham Park Primary School, we believe science teaching and learning is most successful when children are engaged in exciting and inspiring hands-on experiences that enable them to investigate ideas and answer questions for themselves. We seek for opportunities whereby children can collaborate with one another and share their learning through new, ambitious ways, using the correct scientific vocabulary to articulate their ideas and knowledge. We believe Science is not just a question of knowing facts and understanding concepts, it is also about encouraging children to behave scientifically - posing questions to be investigated, hypothesising, recording and analysing. Ultimately, our aim is for children to see themselves as scientists.
Buckingham Park Primary School is extremely fortunate, as it is surrounded by an abundance of outside space, enabling the children to experience an outdoor and highly-practical curriculum. The teaching of science can embrace and incorporate the extensive grassed and woodland areas, along with the pond and numerous allotments onsite. Our on-site facilities enable us to deliver children a hands-on, visual and practical Science curriculum. The unique and wonderful scientific experiences we provide for our children will conjure up many lasting memories, and further spark children's curiosity to lean more about the natural world.

Science Principles
In 2022, staff worked together to create a vision for science at Buckingham Park Primary School, which consists of eight key principles. Our vision for science is displayed in every classroom, and we celebrate when we see these principles in action. These principles encourage our children to think and act like scientists; they know what is expected of them and how they can work successfully in science.
